Pragmatic/social communication disorder is difficulties using and understanding language in context.

Pragmatic impairments may include the following:

  • reduced repertoire of communicative intentions
  • turn-taking difficulties in conversation
  • an inability to repair messages that are not understood by the listener
  • difficulty with narrative discourse such as storytelling
